Abstract
The chemical composition of 26 varieties of Korean rice straw was analyzed. The crude fiber content in rice straw was 44.02-55.50%, ash 10.01-17.16%, starch 9.2-14.5%, moisture 8.56-9.70%, crude protein 0.26-2.90%, and crude lipid 0.28-0.69%. There were no significant differences in proximate compositions among the 26 rice varieties. The major minerals were K 143-392.4 §·/100 g, Ca 59.4-386.1 §·/100 g, Zn 31.78-377.8 §·/100 g, and Na 19.4-104.4 §·/100 g. The contents of IDF, SDF, NDF, ADF, lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose were 70%, 1-2%, 67-73%, 51-61%, 50-60%, 11-17% and 0.3-2% respectively. The lignin content was higher in Hwayoung and Mankum than in the other varieties of others. Ethanol extract content was 1.01-1.52%; and showed little difference among 26 rice varieties. These results may inform further research on the utilization of rice straws.
